Network/Broadband problem

Hi all,
I have a strange home network problem I am unable to work out. My
basic setup is:

Orange broadband
BT Voyager 2100 Modem/Router
1 Desktop cabled directly to router
2 Wireless Laptops.
Network config in terms of Default gateway, DNS Servers etc is the
same for all 3 machines.
Up till last Thursday night all 3 machines worked fine.
Desktop machine still works fine.
Both laptops do not:
They can ping and connect to some sites (eg Google) but not others
(eg. Microsoft.Com).
MSN messenger etc no longer work.
File downloads no longer work, even via FTP client. Files can be
created but no data is downloaded. Some sites that are found get
connected to but no pages are downloaded, I suspect this is to do with
downloading cookies or similar. Internet games (eg World of Warcraft)
can connect but hang as soon as download activity is involved. I have
been through router and TCP settings and can see no obvious problem
and I'm at a loss how to progress. Any suggestions gratefully
received.
Cheers,
Mark

What changed in your setup? Logically, something did. Even the most minor
change can stuff a system.

Microsoft protect their site from pining - the whole world wants to ping
microsoft.com. Don't take that as a sign of failure.

Any changes at all to the router/firewall?

Hi, Thanks for taking the time out to answer.

Nothing I can think of unless Windows update did something. Came into
work this morning, plugged laptop into network, everything works
fine.

microsoft.com. Don't take that as a sign of failure.

Yes, bad example. I could ping sites on the desktop I couldn't on the
laptop though, Yahoo for instance.

No, router config hadn't been touched for months. Firewalls on all 3
machines temporarily disabled.
As everything is fine at work I'm now thinking Broadband provider or
router at fault.
Thanks again,
Mark

I seem to be having the same problem, we are also with Orange. Some
sites we can access fine eg Google , but others, even Oranges online
emails hang and nothing appears!

Bought a new router in the end. I'm not sure whether this was needed
because the old one was faulty or I'd spent so long messing about with
it that settings were wrong and I just couldn't see wood for trees. As
far as I can tell, this could be caused by DNS servers not working
properly or Path MTU settings getting screwed up. Router settings (as
copied from Orange support site in case you can't access it) are:

advanced settings

server settings

The address of the Orange POP mail server is: pop.orangehome.co.uk
The address of the Orange SMTP mail server is: smtp.orangehome.co.uk
Do not use secure password authentication to access mail

IP address

Your IP address is allocated dynamically via DHCP- you do not need to
set this. We are unable to offer a static IP address.

DNS

Domain name service is dynamic - but if domain name server (DNS)
addresses are required, you should use:

195.92.195.94 and 195.92.195.95

Or, if you experience problems with the above, use:

193.36.79.101 and 193.36.79.100

dial up FTP and HTTP proxy settings

Address:http://www-cache.orangehome.co.uk:8080
Port Number: 8080

router settings

If you choose to use an Ethernet modem / router, the correct
connection settings are:

encapsulation:

PPP over ATM

multiplexing method:

VC-Based

virtual circuit:

VPI=0
VCI=38

modulation:

Multi mode

authentication:

CHAP
