Network and Cable modem

Karl Palmer

I dont know if any of you have seen this one.
Cannot get the Cable Modem and Network to work together
(they did once)
Checking the IP addresses of each, they get modified
somehow, with the Cable being forced to take the Ip
address of the network card and therefore not going onto
the internet, or;
deleting the cable modem through device manager and
restarting the comp recranks the cable modem, but all the
Ip info (TCP/IP) for the network gets set to <Unavailable>
Similarly deleting the Network connection and restarting
forces the Ip address for the netwrok card onto the cable
modem and it dont then work.
So it seems I cant get them to work together again.
Someone said I had to strip the hard drive down and
reinstall XP. Can this really be true?
Help from anyone out there who found a solution.
I tried all sorts of reatsring/removing combinations to
see if I oculd build it up layer by layer but no joy.
Thanks guys n gals.

have you tried a hard reset of the router firmware. Its possible that it has
become corrupted... Every router is different. Go to the router mfg. web
site and look in the support section for "how to".
