I have cable internet service, and just a few hours ago I
lost all internet connections. I called the cable service
and they said everything is fine on there end, they have
service going through so it is not them. My computer is
telling me that my cable is unplugged,But everything is
plugged in, everything is attached. "Device manger\system"
says adapter is working fine. I get "Page cannot be
displayed" when I go to Internet explorer 6. I'm using Win
XP Pro. I checked the ethernet cable with another one and
still have the same problem. The PC activity light on the
internet box is off. There is something in the PC causing
this problem. Can anyone tell me what happened here?

Have you tried a different cable? Your problem could be that your cable
modem has failed, the cable between the modem and PC has failed, or that the
network card in the PC is disabled or has failed.

I've been having similar problems with my pc.
Have you turned off your computer and disconnected your cable and power source from modem. Wait for a few minutes say 10 mins. Then plug them in again then restart your computer. Check to see if your IE home page come up. Do you have spyware, etc. on your system maybe more than one? I noticed that they gave me grief. Another point, check your firewall it might be causing other issues. Clear out your temp. files too. Run a diagnostics that won't hurt. If you have made changes you may want to restore a previous state that didn't give you the hassle.

Good luck!
