Network Access Problem

George B

I have two computers at home networked together. I can freely access the
files on the host computer INTERNAL drives but not any files on the external
drives.

The host computer uses Media Center 2005 (Windows XP Pro) and the guest
computer uses Windows XP Home.

Files on the host computer's external drive that are marked for sharing can
be "seen" on the guest computer but they cannot be accessed.

Would appreciate if anyone has any ideas.

Tried it -- doesn't work -- still cannot access external drive files.

They are checked for EVERYONE to have access. But I still cannot access.

I believe you are assuming that Everyone includes the Guest account, but it
does not. You log on as Guest when from another machine, IF your id/pass is
NOT an account on the local system (identical to the id/pass on the 'guest'
machine)

This is what I was driving at about 'simple file sharing'. You must
'Explicitly' share.
