Cannot access files on home network

George B

I need help accessing files on my home network.

Background: My two computers at home are networked together using a Linksys
wired router (BEFSR41). Everything worked fine until I had problems with
both computer (unrelated to network) and had to reformat both computers.

After the reformat both computers have internet access, and can "see" each
other. The host computer CAN access files on the guest computer, but not
vice versa. I cannot print from the guest computer -- I can "see" the
printer name, but cannot access it. I can "see" various files marked for
sharing, but cannot access them.

I have run the MS network wizard on both computers, disabled windows
firewall on both, and marked the files I would like to access properly for
sharing. The host computer runs Windows Media Center 2005 (XP Pro) and the
guest computer runs XP Home. Users on each computer automatically log in as
administrator.

Trying to access the guest computer files I get an error message that the
files cannot be accessed -- maybe I don't have "permission".

As I said they worked fine before. I would appreciate any help or ideas to
enable file access on the guest computer. Thanks.

George,

In addition to Windows Firewall, look for another misconfigured or overlooked
personal firewall, or other security component. There are several other
possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this article
with an open mind.

Users login as administrator (naughty), but is administrator activated for
network access? Check restrictanonymous.

And make sure that NetBT is Enabled on both computers.
