network access denial

I am trying to send some laptop files to my desktop computer. Those two are connected together using a crossover rj45 cable. I can access the files on my desktop through the laptop, but when I try to open the laptop icon in my workgroup to have access to my laptop files through the desktop, it tells me that I might not have access rights so I must contact the administrator.
I have exausted my little knowledge, please help!

I´m having exactly the same problem here, although everything was working
fine before I had to reinstall XP in my desktop machine.

I´ll msg you if I happen to find a solution for our problem. You do the same
please.
