network 2 computers, run game server on host

Ok, I have 2 home computers in the same room, both of
which have an ethernet card and are connecting to the net
just fine. This is the current setup:

cable modem
|
router with NAT
| |
Port1 Port2
XPpro XPhome
(DMZ on)

We'd like to try and run a home network so we can
access each others' files, printers, etc.

As an admin user/login, I've tried running the network
wizard on 1 computer (host), then used the floppy
on the 2nd one (client)...

The 2nd computer (client) lists the host under "view
workgroups", but I can't access it or see any shared
folders.

On the host computer, you can't view any workgroups
shared files, or anything. It refuses to cooperate. When
you try to view workgroups, it gives an error message
stating that I don't have access rights.

When I ran the network wizard & it asked how do you
connect to the internet, I chose "other" > "thru a hub"
because the samples shown seemed to fit...

But then again, is the router considered to be a "hub"?
Or should I have chosen another method of connection
instead? Could this be the problem?

What gives?! I'd like to uninstall/undo the network wizard
setup & start over clean/correctly... Can anyone help?

-----------
COMPUTER SPECS:

- Host: not cooperating, has router DMZ activated
because of server running on it.
- Win XP Pro
- Pentium4 2.0Ghz
- 512MB DDR RAM

- Client: want to make this the host & move the server
onto it instead, & also activate DMZ.
- Win XP Home
- Pentium4 2.6Ghz
- 256MB DDR RAM

Router: NetworkEverywhere.com, model NR041
Cable Modem: Motorola External SB4200
----------

Not only can we not get the computers to share/talk with
each other, but we're also afraid that once we have the
2 computers networked, this will somehow screw up our
game server settings.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I wouldn't even use the network connection wizard. Make
sure both PC's have File and Print Sharing and NetBEUI
installed in the networking properties on the network
adapters. You also have to have each user setup with user
accounts on both PC with the same passwords on both PC's.
After getting all properties and users setup , restart
both computers and wait about 2 min. Then search the local
network for the other PC. Tell me how this works out.
