Netware

Robert Mahoney

I've recently installed Windows 2000 on a Dell laptop and
proceeded to install Novell Netware 5.1. What is happening
is all of the client's network drives when using Explorer
keep freezing. Installations of new software or even
trying to add printers also freeze.

Strange enough, I have had this problem occur also with my
own desktop; an IBM 300 PL.

Yet removing the Netware client seems to fix the problem,
but we need to access those network drives.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated

recommend upgrading to nwclient483sp2 & install in IPX only mode (as 4.x
doesnt do ncp over ip, 5.0 & higher do)
you dont have AV on the clients or servers?
you have sp9 on your 4.11/4.2 server? or do you actually have 4.0?
also make sure your speed/duplex are set correctly & that the server &
client both have the latest drivers for the nic.

desktops and laptops with the same Windows 2000 OS runnin the same version
of Novell Netware client software. But it seems to be with just this one
laptop. And the same problem is continuing today.

In network properties look at your IPX settings, make sure
you have the right frame type and network number, compare
to a working PC. Don't change the internal network
number - should be all 0's
