How do I get rid of the Netsky virus without having to
buy software.Or spending money? Thanks
JIM

You can use AVG Anti-Virus - there's a free edition.

I have not used it because over the past 6 years, I've been able to use
McAfee Anti-Virus or Norton Anti-Virus free after rebates. If you shop
around, you can get the same deal. Rebates are a bit of a hassle, but the
net result is free anti-virus software except for the sales tax and the
postage to mail in the rebate forms.

Jim,
I used the Microsoft method and it worked. Also you can
go to www.Trendmicro.com, they have downloads and free
virus scans called Housecall, worth running every week or
so.

Obtain McAfee's virus and worm removal tool, Stinger: http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

1) If you are using WinME or WinXP, disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
2) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
3) Using McAfee Stinger, perform a Full Scan of your platform and clean/delete any
infectors found
4) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform
5) If you are using WinME or WinXP,Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any
System Restore preferences, (e.g. HD space to use suggested 200 ~ 400MB),
reboot your PC.
6) If you are using WinME or WinXP, create a new Restore point
7) Please report back your results

BTW: There are anti virus News Groups specifically for this type of discussion.

microsoft.public.security.virus
