Bug or What?

I started my machine and simply locked up. Before I
locked up I looked at email and had one looked like a
reply saying I had a virus - something like netski,
netsky. After that every time I re-booted I locked up
either before I could run virus updates, etc. I had 5
critical updates to run, ran them and one or more did not
finish. It was all down hill from there. I also tried
booting from xp disk to run "r". Most of the time I
would get past the eula and freeze up when it was looking
for previous operating system. I even locked up while
browsing in the bios set up program. I have tried a few
restore points and no help. Sometimes I get logged on
but only for a few moments. Same symptoms in safe mode.
Any help at all would be sincerely appreciated.

I would look at the CPU fan and heat sink, sounds like it
may be a temperature problem. If thats not it try
removing the memory sticks one at a time.

Also clean out the inside of the case while your in there.
DO NOT use a vacuum cleaner to do this or you'll likely short out a board.
Best bet, a can of compressed air.
Leave the case open and start the computer, if it is a heat problem then
Frank's and my steps should solve it. If it works but then does it again
with the case closed then you either have a bad power supply fan or maybe
just need to invest in a case fan.

Well, it's difficult to tell by the OP's description of what happened
whether it was infected or not, that's why I wanted him to check that
first since Netsky worm was mentioned.
