Netmeeting

Bruin

I successfully used NetMeeting on a previous build of WinXP Pro. With my
current build I get the error "This version of NetMeeting cannot be
installed on this version of Windows."

They are both WinXP Pro, which IMO means they are the same version. I
literally dug up the original & transferred it to this machine. Same error.

Is there a version of NetMeeting that I can use with this (version of?) XP
Pro?

Netmeeting is my one & only possible solution to being able to get my IT guy
at work get into my machine here at home. There is truly no other option
because for whatever reason, Remote Desktop Connection knocks the VPN
software offline. I am getting desperate here, I really need this
connection. I know there are other solutions, but not one that my employers
will use. Its either Remote Desktop Connection or NetMeeting, & Remote
Desktop Connection does not work.

Why would NetMeeting work on one XP Pro & not another?

Windows XP already has NetMeeting installed

Type conf.exe in the Run dialog box to start the NetMeeting Setup Wizard.

FAST RESPONSE!

I had no sooner found this out via Google, posted a response to my OP, &
your response William showed up before my response!

Thanks!

Microsoft NetMeeting is already installed in Windows XP.
Perform the following procedure to access it easily:

1. Right-click on your Desktop and select NEW > SHORTCUT
2. In the Create Shortcut box type: "C:\Program Files\NetMeeting\conf.exe" , and click Next.
3. Type in a name for the shortcut, such as NetMeeting, then click Finish.
4. A convenient shortcut to NetMeeting will appear on your Desktop.

5. You can also open NetMeeting this way: Start > Run and type: Conf.exe , and hit enter.

You're welcome Bruin. Always perform searches before asking a question, you
might be surprised what you find. :)

Yep, always do, unfortunately this time I only searched Microsoft's site, to
no avail. Only after I posted did I realize I had not Googled yet.

Now I can't seem to get it to automatically accept incoming calls with
Remote Desktop enabled. Remote Desktop enabled & running, security set-up
to only accept secure calls, unsure what I am missing.
If I can't get it to accept them automatically, the work around is to have
my wife at this end starting it up & allowing the sharing.

Thanks again & if you have any ideas on what I could be missing, please let
me know. No big deal as this "should be" a one time event. Once I get
this guy on my machine & able to set his software up, I will be good for
year or two.

You /may/ have to open ports on your router or configure a NetMeeting rule
