netlogon error / no domain controller error

Hi, I have a Windows XP pro computer logging on to a
Win2000 Server setup as a domain controller. When I start
the computer I get a really slow pause at "applying
network settings" until the logon screen appears. I have
checked the Event log and I see Error Event ID 5719
NETLOGON (No domain controller is available for
domain ....due to the following: There are currently no
logon servers available to service the logon request. I
also get Error Event SERVER The server could not bind to
the transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip and Error Event ID 10010
DCOM The Server{E0B 8F 398.....} did not register with
DCOM within the required timeout. Error Event ID 1054
Userenv Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name
for your computer network. {The specified domain either
does not exist or could not be contacted.
All the Windows 98 pc's connect to the network in half the
time of the XP computer so I was wondering if it could
perhaps be a DNS problem? I have tried including the
Server (DC) IP address in the DNS range with the DNS's of
the ISP but then you can't browse the net. I have also
updated the Network card drivers and removed the XP patch
Q811493 but this makes no difference. Any Suggestions?
