NetLogon 5719

I've got a Windows 2000 Pro client that's constantly
getting NetLogon 5719 errors (data c000005e)

No Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain Controller is
available for domain ANTIVERSE. The following error
occurred:
There are currently no logon servers available to service
the logon request.

Everything seems to be working ok (logging in, accessing
network resources, etc), except Group Policies. Those
that don't apply software. For example, the GPOs defining
SUS and IE settings seem to work fine, but those to
install programs (such as McAfee AntiVirus 7.1) don't have
so much as an event log error.

I have tried adding the domain suffix to my DNS settings.
I have tried removing the domain account and readding it.
I have tried adding the registry setting from KB 310339.
I've applied all Windows Updates as well.

Nothing's worked. Any suggestions? (Note - I did the 4
things above after it failed to apply software the first
couple of reboots)

And yes, it's in the correct ou and nothing's blocking the
policies.

There's nothing in the DC event logs indicating AD
problems.

(This is a fresh install from a CD w/SP incorporated with
it)

Thanks for the suggestions -

292788 does not seem to apply - I verified the file dates
and times and they were considerably newer - both at
6/20/03 @ 8:00 am.

221790 does not seem to apply as this is a workstation
with no version of IIS installed. Further, there are no
RPC 1792 errors

232476 does not seem to apply as this is a workstation
with no terminal services capabilities other than acting
as a client (which it is not). Further there are no 1721,
1722, 1723 errors in the event logs.

See if http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=202840 helps.

Thanks for the suggestion Jerold, but sadly it did not
have an affect. (PS. LOVE your site, been using it for
years)

I skimmed through the info and tried one of the
suggestions (setting my NIC to 100-Full Duplex instead of
Auto). Unfortunately, it had no effect. I'll look over
some of the others a little later. Please see my other
comments I just added.

Have you tried the suggestions listed at
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?
eventid=5719&eventno=104&source=NETLOGON&phase=1 ?

A couple of other notes:

NIC is a generic Intel 21143-based NIC. All switches are
unintelligent. (no spanning tree or related).

I have tried configuring an LMHosts file - there wasn't
one at first - but that does not seem to have had any
effect.

The NetLogon error (event 5719) only appears ONCE at
boot. It does not appear periodically.

When the system first boots up, there's a 15-30 second
delay (haven't timed it yet).

Have added the workaround to the registry suggested in KB
202840.

All attempted fixes are still in use.

Any more suggestions?

Almost forgot - I'm sure if I solve the NetLogon problem,
this will be resolved as well, but I'm also getting
W32Time warnings, Event ID 54. There are NO OTHER
Warnings or Errors and these events (netlogon 5719 and
w32time 54) do NOT recur - they only appear once at boot.

Replaced the AOpen AON-315 NIC with a 3COM 3c905-TX and it
worked after a couple of reboots.

FYI the chip on the AON315 NIC is an Intel 21143-PD.

Would love to hear if anyone else experiences this problem
and under what circumstances. Send me an email at
