NetBIOS computer name

Using Windows XP
When I try to change this name under "System", the field
is greyed out, although I have "full control" admin
privileges. Why could this be?

Does it say "Using Windows XP" now or is that a menu or button?

When you say "System" I guess you mean System Properties or?

Operating System: Windows XP Professional
Logged in as Local Machine Administrator

The standard approach to changing computer names:

Right click on "My Computer"
Select "Properties"
Select "Computer Name"
Push "Change..."

Here you can change the "computer name", but not the
NetBIOS computer name.

Press "More..."
This page displays the NetBIOS computer name, but it
CANNOT BE CHANGED here.

Where can it be changed?

Right-click 'my computer'>properties>change. Simple enough for you?
