Net use error

W

Will

Using a DOS based program that needs to print to LPT1.
When mapping the printer in DOS using "net use lpt1
\\servername\printername /persistent:yes" I receive an
error "system error 67 has occurred. The network name
cannot be found". I can ping both the network name and IP
address fine. The printer prints fine from windows. When
using the "dir> lpt1: " command nothing comes out of the
printer either. Does anyone have an idea of what's going
wrong?

If you do this through the printer control panel applet,
does it work?

Please forgive me but I don't understand your question. I
tried to change the port through windows for the selected
printer to LPT1 but his document printed here in Phoenix
instead of San Jose. It seems like DOS will not allow
this printer to be mapped to the LPT1 port even though
another user is setup the same way, and it works for her.
He is logged on as an administrator so I don't think it
is a permission issue. Thanks for the reply

What I meant to say was that when you do your net use
command, you are trying to attach to a network printer.
However, the error message from that net use command
indicates that the network printer cannot be found.

My question was to see if you could go to your network
neighborhood and find the printer manually, rather than
typing it in at a command prompt.

Yes we can see the printer. We can also print from
windows with no problems. But we need to map the printer
to LPT1 in order to print from a Dos based application.
