.NET passport services won't work!!!

T

Tierney

Hi....ever since i got my new computer, i haven't been
able to sign into any .NET passport services...including
hotmail and msn messenger. At first, it allowed me to
sign into windows messenger, but recently they made me
upgrade from the old one to the new version 5.0. Since
then everytime i try to log in it says that I have an
invalid user name or password. I can sign in on other
computers so i know it's not that. I'm also unable to
access other secure website, however i've been through
the security settings numerous times and changed them
every which way. I'm at my wits end....please help.

Hi,

Suggestions: Clear your info and start anew:

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2. Advanced/Manage
Passwords/Remove.

Add Control Userpasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

You can also check here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MessengerService\ListCache\.NET
Messenger Service. In the right pane, Identity Name

Other than that:

For most users this works:

Lan Settings - Proxy Server - Disable (Line 253)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Manual: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings. Uncheck Use a
proxy server.....

Rename your hosts file: Go to: Windows\System32\DRIVERS\etc.
