NET Framwork v 2.0 download

I am a "Newbie". OS WIN XP Pro SP2.
Although NET Framwork v2.0 (50727, 8th May 06) is on my system, it does not
show up in Ctrl Panel and trying to install a prog' which requires the file
produces the msg "....... not installed or detected"! Intending to do the
obvious, i.e, reinstall the file, I am confused by info' on the MS site by
the ref's "NET Framework redistributable package X86/X64". Can someone
advise me re the correct file to install and, although I know it is an "exe"
file; what is the default location?

Go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:NET /?
