TN Grandma

This is going to sound like a really dumb question, but don't know any other
words to ask. I do not have a network within my home but I have several
different programs I have downloaded from Microsoft because they have shown
up when I go to check for new updates. I think I first downloaded it because
I wanted to use an RRS reader, which I no longer use. Now to my
question....Since I'm not on any kind of network is it necessary for me to
have net.framework programs on my computer?????

Hello Grandma,

(I really never thought I'd say that on this board :))
Since I'm not on any kind of
network is it necessary for me to have net.framework programs on my
computer?????

..Net isn't really about networks. The framework is (largely) a set of prebaked
computer code which makes it simpler to create all kinds of programs.

This being the case it's practically impossible to tell if you use any software
that uses it.

I assume that you are looking to save disk space on your machine. If this
is the case you could uninstall it and wait for something to fail however
there may be better ways to save space before you resort to this.

Hi Rory,

Thanks so much for your reply and glad I was the first Grandma you wrote to
on this forum. I will just leave things as they are in case I may need the
NET.Framework for something I have on my computer. I have plenty of space
available, just didn't understand what it was and if I needed it for
anything. Again Thanks for taking time to answer my question for me.

Have a great weekend.

Greetings Grandma,

I would not uninstall the .NET Framework, particularly if you have plenty of
space available. You may require it in future to run any .NET programs you
download, and of course there's an old saying: "if it aint broke, don't fix
it". It won't do your machine any harm to leave it installed.

I would recommend that you keep regularly checking Microsoft Update
(http://update.microsoft.com) for the latest security updates, but other
than that, happy surfing :-)

Kind Regards,
Alex

Hi Alex....Thanks for your comments, always appreciate any help. If I
remember correctly, which is sometimes a little hard for me :), the reason I
downloaded the Net.framework was to use a RSS reader but that was before IE7,
so no longer need a reader. Thanks again and take care.
