Do I need .NET Framework on my computer? I do not do any programming;
Just home book keeping, a few simple games and the internet.

No, unless an app requires it, in which case it will either be installed, or
you will be so notified (and can download it from the MS site, if
necessary). Actually, I thought version 1.1 came with some XP
installations.

It has nothing to do with whether you do programming. If you run apps
that require it, you need it, otherwise you don't. Moreover the app
may require a particular version of it, so you may need more than one
version.

They take a tiny amount of disk space. If you don't need them, having
them has practically no downside. My advice is to have them all, so
they are there if you ever need them.

Ken - does version .NET Framework 1.1 come standard with XP (or XP SP2) as I
suspected? (I can't remember, but I know I've got it)

From what I remember, it came as a Windows Update.

Depends upon the programs you are running, if a program requires a certain version,
generally you'll be notified. I was recently installing a program that required .NET 3.5.

Sorry, I don't remember either. Perhaps someone else does.
