Nero not recognising my DVD drive

K

Kwaj

My machine is running WinXp. Recently put in a DVD-RW driver but my Nero
engine doesn't recognise that the drive is their, thus I am unable to back
up DVD's or make any CD compilations from MP3s.

Windows Media Player however sees it and I am able to make CD's using it.

How do I get Nero to see it? Any ideas?? It's a generic DVD-RW drive
(Justlink brand).

Typically one updates nero, and if the update isn't recent
enough to recognize the drive then you can either wait for
the next patch, see if a newer version of Nero addresses it,
or use another program instead.

OK. Can you recommend any other programs besides Easy Cd Creator (which is
bloated). How's CDRwin these days

Hi Kwaj. Try alt.comp.Freeware to see what alternate software you can find.
You have checked in Device Manager to see you haven`t got any problems
there, haven`t you ?. ..J

Is EZCD what came/comes bundled with those drives?
If so you may face similar situations trying to use any
other software, that there is a lag between entry of a drive
into the market and support by apps. Since you are familiar
with nero and chose to use it previous, I would look further
at getting it to work. I haven't used CDRwin in a long time
and so have no idea about it.

Be careful. I installed burn4free and another CD program. One of them
had a virus but avast detected it. Both freebies had hard to use
interfaces and I wasn't able to make them do what I needed. They are
fronts and try to make you pay for the version that works right.

Fortunately the free version I got a while ago did not contain
the,"Spyware/Adware" that they have now introduced.(I know they have
to pay for their time some how but that's not my way)

I now de-recommend ".Burn4free".

Cdmate,

I have trialed,"CDmate",
http://www.cd-mate.com/
and it's superb,but not free.As for interface,well that's up to the
user.We all get used to things done a certain way but have to re-learn
if a good bit of software doesn't do it as we have been,"Programmed"
;-)

Winxp burn function does not support DVD.

You must have Nero 5. Update to 5.5.10.56 and see if the burner is
recognized:
http://www.nero.com/us/Update_Nero_Burning_ROM.html

If not recognized, you need to upgrade to Nero 6 that can be had for
around $30 (after rebate).

(Stay away from Easy CD/DVD Creator as it has bugs in DVD burning.)

I had this same problem. The tech who sold me the drive said it was
common w/ DVD burners. It has to do with the controllers & Windows Plug-
n-Play. Take out both drives, boot up then shut down. Install the DVD-RW
as master. Boot up then shutdown. Finally install your old CD-ROM as
slave and boot up.
