Nero Help Files (PDF and CHM)

Doug

I have downloaded Nero and confirm that version Nero-7.9.6.0_eng_update.exe
works fine under Vista Home Premium as reported on this NG recently.

I have downloaded a whole lot of help files (PDF and CHM) and the Nero FAQs
say to put the CHMs in the Nero directory (folder?). I have done so, but the
[?] buttons still don't react. And there are lots of "Nero" folders to chose
from - does each go in the sub-folder to which it relates? In short, where
should I put the CHM files and do I have to do anything else to make them
work? I hope this is sufficiently Vista-esque to be on topic! - Doug

The PDF ones aren't useful and the ones you need are already included in the
original download. The CHM ones are the ones that you need.
First you have to right-click each one/Properties and Unblock/Apply/OK.
Enable View Hidden Files and Folders will make this easier.
Basically you have to locate (mostly in My Computer/Program Files/Nero/Nero
7) the existing CHM files which are around 3kb and tell you to download the
help files ;-) - then simply replace them with the new ones. It takes a
while but once you have the hang of it it's easy.
Some items are not in that Nero 7 folder/sub folders - you have to really
delve to find them. Try My Computer/VistaDriveName/Your Name/Application
Data/Local/Ahead - for instance.
Also some elements don't have help files CD/DVD Speed for instance.
Why on Earth Nero does this to us is anyone's guess but they always have.
Nero 6 was a lot easier because you only had to install a language pack to
get all the instructions included.

I forgot to add that some of those CHM files are .enu at the end...you have
to alter them to .eng (assuming English is the language you are using).

Thanks, Peter.

I followed your advice and unblocked the ones that showed as blocked but
still no joy. In fact I have just been to NeroCoverDesigner_eng.chm in the
Nero CoverDesigner sub-folder and tried to run it directly, and I still get
this message:

Dear User,
In order to keep the size of the download file small, help and manual files
have been excluded from this version. You can download help and manual files
in your own language from:
http://www.nero.com/link.php?topic_id=7070&language=ENU

Seems odd when I am trying to run one of the files that the message invites
me to download!

I changed the file's security settings to give me full control of
NeroCoverDesigner_eng.chm, but the problem persists.

CHM files for other programs (in other Program Files sub-folders of course)
open directly when double-clicked after accepting a simple warning.

I don't remember any problem when I set it up under XP. Any more ideas?

In the morning I will see if I can spot the folder or CHM file attributes
that differ - too tired now - Doug
