Nero 8 Ultra - anyone using it?

Just wondering if anyone has installed Nero 8 Ultra; if the install
worked better than v7.xx, or if there were problems.

I want to know if it is *even more* bloated. What new roles does it want to
play now?

I gave it 10 minutes and went back to 7. IOW I won't be looking for a version 9
either.
7 works fine. I'd actually be using 6.6 if it worked on Vista.

I just finished downloading & installing it. No problems with the install.
Haven't used it yet.

Regards,
No problems with the install - custom install (didn't want all the
features). Burning and Lightscribe work well. Still no normalization
when recording an MP3 disk (would be a good feature as I put 8 or 9 CD's
on one disk in MP3 format to play in my truck stereo). Haven't tried any
of the video recording yet.

Thanks,

Guess I'll try it & see how it goes.

Regards,

Nero have introduced product activation for the new version. Get ready for
lots of complaints and people saying we should be using open source burning
software instead!

I'm using it and the only problem I had was an intermittent Startsmart
refusing to open, but that seems to have vanished.,
Nero have free support for the month of October for Nero 8....so find out
what's wrong quickly and get on that phone...LOL

I installed the downloaded version (you have to remember to uninstall any
prior versions first) and it went without any problems. The only concern is
that during the install it takes quite awhile on some portions and you
wonder if the program has hung the computer. You just have to be patient
and it'll finally work its way through. I found this to be common on
several earlier versions. I've always purchased the download version
on-line. The interface is different and I haven't passed judgement on that
yet.

I use the download method too. I'm not very struck by the new Startsmart -
preferred the old one.

Regards,

I purchased Nero 7 then about 1 month later signed up for Nero 8 and got it
after that. CAN'T GET IT TO INSTALL on 2 PC computers, one running Win XP
Pro SP2, the other Vista Business. It gets into a "boot loop" and states
that there's a Windows update "pending" -- wanna reboot? Then, reboot,
after reboot, after reboot, ad infinitum. Then, I tried it on yet a third PC
running Vista Home, but, after thoroughly removing Nero 7, running Nero
GeneralCleanTool, Regseeker, Registry First Aid Platinum (all paid for), and
REBOOTING many times in between, to my amazement, it installed (takes about
15 minutes--"bloated" is a far understatement!!). Wait... Then, upon
execution of Nero 8 SmartStart, it bombs out on MS Runtime C++ error,
abnormal program termination. Nero support has been less than helpful, you
know, trivial help... I have a credit card chargeback pending. A word to
the wise!! Buy it, try it, if you don't believe me!! BTW, Nero 8 failed on
3 PCs. Nero 7 worked OK on all 3 PCs. Stephen F.

I am downloading the trial right now actually. Thanks for your information,
might as well stick with 7. Anyway, most of the functionality provided by
NERO and Roxio though can be done with the built in tools in Vista, so its
pretty much a waste of time upgrading to every new version, every year!

I'm using version 8 on Vista Ultimate. Not sure if I have the Ultra
version. No problems installing or using yet.

Update #1 to previous entry: I was able to get NERO 8 to install and
actually work on the second of 3 PC computers, the Vista Business one. I
Microsoft Update'd the O/S to the newest level, rebooted, uninstalled several
video related apps, rebooted, cleaned the registry with Regseeker, rebooted,
and installed Vista codecs called Advanced Vista Codec Package 4.5.1 found on
freeware websites, rebooted. NERO 8 installed nicely and worked, even
SmartStart, which is very nice looking. I went right to Express which is
what I use most of the time and burned a medium-sized (3.25 GB, 12 files, 1
folder) hospital-marketing movie DVD to an external BEN-Q burner in record
time. I was impressed. In summary, this Vista Business NERO 8 install works
well; the Vista Home install works except for SmartStart (I launch a shortcut
to Nero Burning Rom and click on the bottom link to Express); finally, to try
to fix the XP Pro NERO 8 install (that's a tough one, still working on it!).

I installed Nero after what I thought was removing version 7. I had a heck of
time installing and even after removing 7 with the install tool and
installing 8 I can no longer run IE, McAfee and help files from Nero.

I have asked Nero what has happened and have sent them every thing they have
requested and I cannot get my programs to work. Nero runs more or less but
thank god I have FireFox on my computer or I would not have a browser.

I have Nero 8 running in Vista 64.I had to uninstall Nero 7.Then d/l the
clean tool from Nero.
It took 3 times of running tool before Nero was off my machine.I then
installed Nero 8 twice before it ran properly. Runs fine now except for the
SXS errors in the event viewer. The strange thing is the errors do not seem
to effect Nero 8 programs as far as I can tell.I do not have any other
programs affected by Nero 8.I have had it install since beginning of Oct.

Yeah Troy,
Basically the same thing happened to me on Vista Home Basic. I have NERO 8
working except for the SmartStart which bombed out on a Visual C++ Library
error (see my previous post). So, in my brilliance, I went forth with
installing Nero 8b update, in which install I got very many errors. Then,
same as you, very few programs worked!! I crippled along and got some
working, but then, I, eh-em, had to do the fabled fdisk, re-format,
re-install Vista Home Basic from scratch!! Sorry. It was better for me
because my first Vista Home install was an XP Home upgrade, so this way I got
a clean install--took me most of a day! Now, everything works except Windows
Mail and Windows Live mail, so I went to "our" base program, yes, Mozilla
Thunderbird (email client). Of course, I also use Firefox. Then, NERO came
out with their 8.1.1.1_full final new program worth 551 MB !!! Get it here:
ftp://HX13ZDK:gtR8&[email protected]/Nero-8.1.1.1_full.exe
Good luck. Stephen F.
