Nero 7 Vista Capable/Free Update Here

C

Chad Harris

Since the beta started back in July, there have been scores of posts of
users trying to use Nero 7 when it came out--and I think one reason is that
like myself, a lot of people like using Nero and unlike myself, people hop
on every new version of Nero when it releases. I have updated 6 regularly
and found that 6 plus installs fine for me and works on Vista.

Nero just announced that they have Nero 7 Vista capable, so for those of you
who have been wanting to use Nero's interface and features other than
Vista's native DVD burning, or would like to compare the functionality of
the two, now you can:

Nero 7 Ultra *Enhanced is Vista Capable
http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/index.html

It appears that if you have Nero 7 you can update to this free:
http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php

Enjoy--

hm...this version is out for over a week, i believe. So, they're a bit late
with annoucement. I bet they waited for user feedback and forum comments and
when they realised that it really works, they said so...

I'm sure they got a ton of feedback asking for this to happen months ago and
as you and I have watched every OS rollout, they and most 3rd parties drag
their feet until near or in the case of many after RTM to get compatible
with the new OS. Most of us who have a lot of applications have noticed
that many aren't Vista compatible, and particularly 64 bit drivers are
taking a good while to roll out, but as RTM looms things will get much
better as to 3rd party and drivers.

I am always happy when 3rd party and drivers are available for Vista, and
plenty vexed as to why they take so long when many people from MSFT have
told me repeatedly that they have had enough code for months to get the job
done.

But it always seems to be the case.

In a Technet Webcast a couple months ago, one of MSFT's excellent
presenters, and the owner of a very productive website as to Vista and
Office 2007, and many of the servers and other software rollouts was pretty
explicit on the foot dragging of 3rd parties, and a lot more frank than
most people from MSFT have been on the subject.

But now that it is so close to releasing, we'll see a ground swell of Vista
compatibility soon as well as a flood of tools that are about to release to
make Vista migration from XP easy.

i hope that thing will sort out by 2007. But it's interesting that mainly
bigger companies are behing vista compatibility, while smaller ones have
their software compatible quite a while now.

Nero

Nero 7 Premium Reloaded v 7.5.7.0 IS the exact same as the so called
"ENHANCED"one.
There is no difference at all.
One Nero site calles it"ENHANCED" and for the UK it is called Premium
Reloaded

I'm having issues with Nero, which I posted here recently (rundll32 error
when opening folders containing MPEG files).

This is good to see but I believe it has some shortcomings (in my opinion).

In an OS rollout I think that software providers should also have a similar
OS rollout.

I am trying Vista 64 bit and 32 bit but I have not foregone my XP Pro
license.

I think software providers should also use a similar model at this stage in
the rollout.

I should not have to forgo my XP license to try a Vista variant of the
software?

I tried that, but it wouldn't install. I forget the message it gave me, but
the install would shut down after unpacking the files. Is this a problem
with the 64bit Vista or just me. Thinking about scrapping the 64bit version
anyway. Nothing works, and it runs slow.

I just installed the latest Nero 7 on build 5744 and I'm getting this too.
I'm getting a COM error too, but I forget the exact wording. Glad to see
I'm not the only one getting it.

It's the Dllhost COM Surrogate service which crashes when viewing
previews.

You're definitely not the only one.

I got the error too last night for the first time. It only happened when I
had Media Player open. It doesn't happen if I'm just folder-browsing and
looking at avi files.
