Need Windows XP help

I need to defrag windows installation drive D:/ because I have made a lot
of software changes, removal of software that is not used and installation
of many games and game demos, and some utilities.

I opened the widows defragmenter and none of the buttons say anything
so I do not know what to click, same in the drop down menu.

I opened add/remove programs to click add/remove windows components
and I get the error, stop message:

message box:

Windows XP setup
[ ! ]
Setup library msdtcstp.dll could not be loaded, or function OcEntry cold not be found.
Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x7e.
[ OK ] click

new message box:

windows XP setup
[ X ]
The application could not be initialized
[ OK ] click

After this mess I try to open the Windows help file, no joy and no help file.
I definitely do not want to use "system restore" because I never created a
"restore point" as long as I have owned XP, maybe two years now.

Anyone know what on Earth I should do? ANY help is GREATLY appreciated.

By default System Restore automatically creates System Restore Points every
24 hours or so. Check it yourself and see if you have a current Restore
point.

You could try System File Checker. From Windows pop your XP CD into the
drive. Exit the Install screen. Go to Start->Run and type the following and
click Ok

SFC /SCANNOW

System File Checker (SFC) will scan your system for corrupt/damaged/missing
system files and will replace them with known good files from your CD and
from your hard drive. It really doesn't tell you what or if it found
anything. When finished remove the CD and restart your computer.

If that doesn't work you can try a Repair Install. This will overwrite your
current system files but will leave your installed applications and data
intact. You must do a decent backup of your important data first though just
to be safe. See How To Run A Repair Install

Highlight the drive to be defragged.. click on it once, and the buttons

Hello,

I am not sure if this will work as i am not an expert on this issue, however
it sounds like you might have uninstalled some windows components. Insert
your XP cd and install all the windows components. or do a repair from the xp
cd.

Not sure if ths will help but let me know

Cheers

Luke
