need to scan disk after blue screen?

Sometimes the PC will blue screen or even reboot itself due to HDTV
recording or power outage... just wonder nowadays, if no scan disk is
done after that, can we keep on using the computer without further
damaging the existing files? Supposedly, it may be better to do a
"scan and repair" for the whole drive after that, so that it is back
to "normal"... but for a big drive, like 750GB, it can take a couple
of hours...

so I wonder for the modern OS, will it be smart to save files in a way
that when the computer blue screen or reboot, no scan disk is needed
to prevent further damage to files? (such as saving a new file and
that will cover up an old file or part of an old file). Thanks very
much!

If the files or service gets corrupted, then replace them from xp cd.
Also,if an outage does happen & one thinks the disk should get checked, boot
to xp cd,recovery,in recovery type:CHKDSK C: /p This chks the hd in a minute
or two,run it 3X,& it checks as running CHKDSK C: /R
Also,a 700GB hd should only take 30 minutes or so

My understanding is the OS sets a "dirty bit" when the disk is in a
state where if there was a sudden power failure or crash, the disk
should be scanned for repair, and the OS clears the "dirty bit" when the
disk is in an OK state. So on boot, the OS is supposed to look at the
"dirty bit" to see if it's set, and run a CHKDSK only if it's set. If
it's clear, the OS deems everything is OK and skips gthe CHKDSK.

(However, I've been unable to get Vista to run CHKDSK on reboot. Today I
got a brand new Vista computer, and in this new pristine state I tried
getting it to run CHKDSK on reboot, and it refused. All 3 of my Vista
computers refuse to run CHKDSK on reboot. I already had to rebuld the
hard drive on one of them because there was file corruption and I spent
a week trying to get it to run CHKDSK so I wouldn't have to rebuild the
hard drive. Eventually gave up and rebuilt the hard drive. My
productivity dropped to zero when I got my Vista computers. Just can't
seem to get these things to work.)
