Hi,

i have installed Windows 2000 professional, when i
shutdown it doesnot switch of the power(which was
happening earlier) also i have some problems of accessing
IIS server or installing any software, few more problems,
i am not a expert in getting it fixed. i decided to
install a fresh copy of Windows 2000. can some one let me
know how do i do this, ie, i want my existing windows 2000
operating system to be removed and installed a new copy
but it should not format any of my other drives,ie,
D:,E:,F: it should only format my C: drive and install a
new copy of Windows 2000 professional.

regards,
Kiran.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts. When you get to the point choose to format the system partition and
continue the install.

the shutdown problem is a setting. go to display
properties/screensaver/powersettings/
From there you should see a tab called APM.
Go to that and enable it.
thats it...easy

As for reinstalling follow the on screen prompts untill
you get to a promt about partitions. You can delete the C
and then install the new OS on the blank area you just
made. Or you can just chose c and i think it asks if you
want to overwrite the data..either way works
