Need to reformat as w2000

I bought a cheap pc with XP installed. I want to upgrade
(down?) to W2000. I have an upgrade license and disk,
but XP disables the setup functionality. How do I get
around this?

I guess you mean you have a 2000 upgrade disk. If so you need to boot from
the 2000 disk, do a format and install 2000. If you have a 2000 upgrade disk
you will need a qualifying disk also.

Just boot from the Win2k CD, delete the partitions, and go from
there. Be advised, you will loose everything on the hard
drive.

Why? It's a step backward.

You don't. You can't do a downgrade with an upgrade CD. You will
have to do a clean installation to accomplish this.

Not if you like to have a stable OS that doen't have the kitchen sink
bundled with it.
