Need to partition preloaded hard drive

Just bought new PC with preloaded software. Want to partition drive and reinstall preloaded software to smaller OS drive. XP will only let me create 1 partition and limits it to 7 Gb. Is there any way I can reformat and set up multiple partitions to my preference and then use Recovery CD to reload software?

The OEM "Recovery CD" will only permit you to restore your drive
to the original factory configuration. You'll need to purchase a conventional
version of Windows XP to accomplish your customization goal.
