I need to copy Windows XP (Home) from my C:drive to an
additional drive in my computer and later remove the
installation from the alternate drive. Is this possible
and if so, how do I go about it?

I have a third drive not in the machine under discussion
on which there are files I need. The quickest way to get
at them (I suppose) would be to disconnect my C:drive and
connect this third drive in its place. However the third
drive has only Windows 98 on board. I guess I'm basically
afraid of having to reinstall Windows XP when I get done.
I'm not sure this is very clear but I don't know how else
to describe the situation. I DO NOT intend to leave
multiple copies of a single license in existence any
longer than necessary. What should I safely do?

Not sure I understand correctly,
If yr saying you have a ok winxp sys, and have data files on a win98 hd
which you wish to transfer to the winxp sys?
Then assuming you cannot copy files to cd/floppy or network two sys, Install
win98 hd as a slave on winxp sys and copy files across
