Need Sound Help

I just finished formatting my hard drive and reinstalling XP. Now, when I
play mp3 files, you can hear the music part of the song, but the voice part
of the song is very faint, almost invisible. All of my volume control
settings seem to look right and I have tried reinstalling WM 11, that didn't
change anything. Any suggestions?

you simply might
need a better sound
board.

however, you can
run msinfo32 and use the
directx testing "tool"
to check your sound system.

Hello Misty,

Sounds (???) like a stereo track problem. Got the correct speakers
selected in Control Panel => Sounds and Audio Devices => Volume?
Got the correct device selected in the same place => Audio?
Installed the drivers for your sound card?

Hi.
That's typical of missing the center part of the mix. That's how auto
karaoke software work: they cut off the center of the mix.
Make sure you don't have a 5.1 setup (or so) with nothing playing at the
center (forgotten lead to speaker?), or phase problems (two channels
opposed and annihilating each-other).

Sam.

The sound card worked fine before I formatted. MSinfo32 showed no erros or
anything unusual.

ok,
if the direct x diagnostics
tested your sounds
and they were heard correctly,
then issue is not faulty hardware
and more likely to be somekind
of user configuration issue.

depending on the sound
system, you may have special
software installed that mimics
a sound equalizer or special
effects.

The other suggestions
was that you may be using
a karoke profile / effect. These
specialized/advanced performance
features can be found in the sounds
control panel.

possibly if you reinstalled the o.s. you
may also need to download specialty
software/add-ons provided by
your system maker or sound
board manufacturer...

sorry i couldn't provide any
more help....

The only things I've put back on this comp since the format is SBC Yahoo
Browser, WM 11, yahoo messenger and DVD Shrink. My sound is Realtek AC97. I
don't see anything anywhere about karoake settings and I've checked every
thing in the sounds and all of the settings look right. I feel like I've
gone stupid.

I have no clue what any of this means lol I have checked all sound settings
and unless I'm missing something, which is probably true, I don't see
anything unusual.

yeh, i'm have the same sound driver.
however, i also have a "sound effect
manager" in the control panel as well.

you likely should have one too.
however, here is a link to a
third party for that realtek
driver. If you look towards
the bottom the driver package
includes an effects manager.

although i am providing a third
party site for informational
purposes, you probably should
double check your own system
or your computer or motherboard
manufacturer's website for a similar
download package....
