As long as you possess the qualifications for using an Academic version,
you can install it.

Academic Versions of Windows XP are:

--- For noncommercial, educational use only.
--- For qualified educational users only.
--- Non-upgradeable to the next Windows O/S.
--- Non-transferable.
--- Has installation support only.
--- Has a non-perpetual license that is tied to the eligibility of the
user.
(If a user is no longer a student or educator, the license is no
longer valid)

Your right to use the Academic version of Windows XP ends when
you no longer meet the criteria for using the Academic version of XP.

It sounds like a Volume Licensed, Academic version. It's my understanding
that if you are qualified to buy this version, then you can install and use
it for personal use.

these are not academic versions they are regular full versions purchased by the college and sold to employees, i paid $1.99 for each xp pro and $2.99 for the office 2003. I guess i'll just have to install and find out the hard way right???

They certainly are academic versions. These are the only versions where you
will find the CD label that you originally described. If you made a couple
of typos and were charged $199.00, the college may be making some extra
money from this version of XP.

Hello
They are perfectly legal as long as you have the key code and they are more
then likely an academic version and you should follow the guidelines stated
by Carey in the earlier post.

Education institutes have the ability to purchase these at a fraction of the
cost, for the sole purpose of education and training.

These copies more then likely do not have SP1 or any other updates on them
so besure to enable the firewall and visit the Windows Update site and
download all the updates for security and safety.

Hi,

My daughter has the same XP CD supplied by her school. The agreement, if
the school supplied you with a copy, may be like the one my daughter got.

Her "license" agreement says it expires every July 30th until she
graduates, then she's furnished with a document saying she owns the copy
they've supplied. The agreement mentions that it should no longer be
used if her status as a student at that school changes. I've yet to see
if the software is somehow crippled and goes to hell at the end of July.

well i installed both copies of xp pro on my pc and laptop and i installed office 2003 on both machines as well with out a hitch. Gonna take a while to get used to using office 2003, it's quite different than 2000. not a bad deal I paid $6.97 for over a $1000.00 worth of software.
