Win XP pro Reinstall to a different PC is recognised as illegal

I brought my PC from the UK to the US where I know live. I have my own copy
of Xp Pro version 2002 Srvc pk 1. The PC that the software was installed on
recently underwent hardware upgrades. Microsoft update informed me that my
software was possibly illegal and took me to a site which wanted $159 to put
it right. I was suspicious and three days later my system went into a boot
looping frenzy. I had to remove the HDD and reformat it as a slave drive in
my other PC.

I want to give my old pc to my son with a new HDD with XP pro installed but
I know it will give me the same trouble because of the hardware chages. I
tried to contact customer support but they want $60 to help me with something
I paid the equivalent of $600 in the UK for. My great fear is that Microsoft
will want me to purchase a volume license so that they can give me another
product key. But I already have a license for the product which i own.
