Need new monitor - CRT vs LCD opinions

S

Steven Wandy

My current monitor seems to be about to leave me.
Wondering on the current state of LCD monitors for gaming (lots of FPS, some
sports, some adventure) usage versus CRT ones (what I currently have).
Preferences - positive vs negative opinions. Thanks

There are good LCDs but a cheap CRT is better than a cheap LCD. So
keep that in mind. Cheap LCDs can be blurry, low contrast, and the
screen redraw can seem sluggish in games requiring high frame rates.

Don't by the cheapest one you see. You get what you pay for.

17" for gaming round-$500 for good contrast you'll get
from a crt.

Check out this months MaximumPC magazine. They reviewed the latest
greatest LCD monitors for their performance and gaming capability. A
few "passed" as gaming monitors. I tried a viewsonic LCD but didn't like
it's performance for games. Interestingly the monitor I tried also failed
their
tests. Be prepared to spend a lot of money for a high quality LCD $800+.
I stayed with a CRT monitor and settled on the viewsonic p220fb...
