LCD or CRT for gaming?

Colin

I've been thinking of upgrading my NEC FE700+ crt monitor to either a 15" or
17" LCD like a NEC1700V, price being a consideration.

I've heard that LCD's are not as good for gaming due to some video lag. I
was wondering if that is true and whether you would recommend going to a LCD
display or should I stick with my CRT?

Thanks for your response

I upgraded from a 15" crt to a 17" LCD (Rad 7c). I wouldn't even consider
going back right now. Not a single think I've done has looked better on the
CRT (Divine Divinity, Anarchy Online, Shadowbane, Star Wars Galaxies,
GeForce demos, Wallpapers, etc.) As you can see I haven't tried war games
like Battlefield 1942 on it but I don't forsee it being a problem. I get no
blurring between frames on the LCD.

If you do end up going LCD though, go with some with a high contrast ratio
(higher the better). My only other recomendation would be to look for a DVI
capable LCD if your video card supports it; neither my Rad 7c or my Palit
Daytona GF4 Ti4200 do :(

Ditto here. There seems to be a misconception (mainly from the LCD bashers)
that LCDs or Flat Panels are not good for gaming. I haven't had a single
problem; and like you, I wouldn't ever consider going back. I have a GF4
Ti4200, which does support DVI. My LCD is DVI capable too. So I'm all set.

Well, LCDs used to (stressing the used to) have slower response, which made
for bad gaming. Cheap LCDs probably still do. Having it all-digital (instead
of converting from analog - the classic VGA outlet - to digital) probably
helps, too.
