What message do you get?
How are you trying to open the template?
Can you just open PowerPoint and start a new blank presentation?

Have you applied Service Pack 1 to Office 2003? You can check to see by going
to Help > About Microsoft PowerPoint . If it doesn't mention SP 1, then go to
Help > Check for Updates and follow the links to Check for Updates. That might
be all you need to do.

Have you tried just opening shimmer.pot? Go to File > Open and browse to the
location of your templates. That *may* work.

Something tells me that the file is damaged. Can you open other templates okay?

Did you install Office on your system? Do you have the installation CD?

Try putting your Office 2003 CD in your drive and run setup.exe. Select Add or
Remove Features and click Next.

This is very important. - - Click the box that says something like "Choose
advanced customization of applications" and then click on Next. In the next
dialog click on the "+" next to Microsoft Office PowerPoint. Then do the same
for Design Templates. Click on the icons next to the "Typical..." and
"Additional.." templates and make sure they are set to "Run from my computer".
Then click on update and follow any instructions that appear.

Restart PowerPoint and see whether the templates now work.

Hello,

There's a good chance that you are running into a known problem with Office
applications and Norton's AntiVirus software.

The Norton AntiVirus plug-in for Microsoft Office scans documents for macro
virus infections in Office products. This plug-in may cause performance
issues, the inability to open files or OLE objects from within Office (such
as design templates or Graphs in PowerPoint), or the inability to install
some Office applications.

The latest information about the problems associated with this plug-in can
be located in the following KB article:

No problem....

If McAfee also hooks in to the OfficeAV.dll, perhaps it can also cause this
problem to occur. Have you tried disabling McAfee temporarily or booting
your system in Safe Mode to see if the problem still occurs under those
configurations?
