Need help

I have Verizon DSL thru a Westell Model 2200 external modem. When the
ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the ethernet port on my
Preseario 2100 laptop, I get clear fast internet access, so I know that
the DSL is working. When I connect the DSL cable to my Linksys WRT54G
wireless router's "Internet" ethernet port the internet light on the
front panel lights up. The laptop says I'm connected to the Linksys
network, but I can't reach the et thru mozilla firefox or IE or Eudors.

I'm totally puzzled as apparently the same connection worked for
months, until 5 weeks ago when we went out of town for 5 weeks. Out of
town we rented an apartment with DSL; when I plugged the internet cable
from the apartment's DSL modem into the Linksys router we had perfect
wireless for the entire 5 weeks.

Now that we're back home, I can't get the setup to work.

Any thoughts?

Please respond to (e-mail address removed) rather than to my gmail account,
which I rarely read.

Thanks
Dave

The laptop is telling you that it is connected to the router. What does
the router's Status page tell you about its relationship with the modem? Is
it getting an IP address? The lights, while helpful, don't provide enough
information.

Have you tried clearing the router settings - resetting the router - and
reconfiguring it? This is sometimes necessary, and I have found it to be
more likely to be necessary if there have been electrical storms or other
disruptions, and if the router and modem are not plugged into UPS units.

You don't need much of a UPS unit for the router and modem, and they can
help extend their life and reliability.

Suggest that you put a brief summary of problem in Subject line - this is a
very busy newsgroup and there isn't time to look at everyone's problem in
detail.

I first look through the Subject line.
