For the past 3 days, my PC is screwing up. I did virus scans, and used
spybot...got rid of the spyware, no viruses.. Nero quit working, says
installation is corrupted, AVG antivurus won't load and will not
install once uninstalled...installed Bit Defender and did a virus scan
and found nothing..IE7 was corrupted and I am not able to register
JSCRIPT.DLL.....I end up with an error that says DLLRegister Server in
jscript failed. return code 0x80004005...did a search and found a site
that had a reg. script to fix the jscript, but when I merge it I get
this can't import error...not all files were successfully written to
the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes. I
am wondering if an in place repair install will correct this and other
problems??? I also read where I might get the same registry error in
safe mode...now I am unable to use any cd burning software I had and
can't do any backups.

another problem is that Windows Media player would not load, but I
somehoe got it to work, but it will not play certain wav files it used
to play...it's like some will play and other won't...I'm using winamp
to play them, but they do not show up as wav files, but sound files
for some reason..at least they do play in winamp.

If you *really* don't have any malware, then a repair install may work
for you, but there might be a better way to address your problem.

First, what did you do three days ago that probably produced your
problem?

Have you tried a System Restore?

Can you boot up in Safe Mode? If so, did you perform your scans in Safe
Mode? Does AVG still work?

If everything is fine in Safe Mode, you may want to perform Clean Boot
Troubleshooting:

If you're having trouble with IE7, you should see:

http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html

If you decide to perform a clean install after all, make sure you have
all your data backed up and all your drivers handy.

my very last resort is a clean install...avg doesn't work..uninstalled
it and tried a reinstall, but wouldn't let me reinstall it....I didn't
do anything that I can recall to cause this...only thing I did was
create a new profile so that my startup and shutdown sounds would work
which they did.,..just did a reboot and then AVG wouldn't load due to
a kernel error...Nero wouldn't load due to saying the install was
corrupt...then windows media player wouldn't load...so I remembered
the tip I read on the web about registering vbscript.dll and
jscript.dll I had to do that a long time ago when I had that
problem...the jscript problem cause IE7 to not load anymore...got IE6
to work at least even though it won't load javascript on certain
sites.. ...also did a repair install which didn't do jack...it froze
on me when it got to 13 mins left on install several times...I
eventually took out a stick of RAM(had 512mb) and the repair install
finished...right now I am afraid to try a clean install for fear of it
not working and making things worse...at least I can get online and
check my email and run some of my programs...I did find a free cd/dvd
burning program to backup everything...even download a program I read
about called dial-a-fix which didn't fix anything...also, my sound
card drivers went back to the old win98 drivers for some reason...so I
downloaded the xp drivers, but I get an ikernel.exe InstallShield
error...I do have sound though, but have to use the old
drivers....also the jscript would have fixed my Yahoo Messenger from
crashing, but now I can't use it either and have to run web
messenger..even tried Yahelite, but can't get the voice chat to
work...uuuugh my head hurts again!!

another thing I forgot...windows update won't work right...get the
auto updates and click express install, but after that I get the
update shield that says windows updates are ready to install...tried
going to windows update site, but unable to load the download options
on the site...

You've been posting a series of problems with your system, and what you've
tried to fix those problems. Are things getting better, or getting worse?
You've been starting new threads, even though the series of problems are all
connected, some clearly caused by what you've done to correct earlier
problems. At this point, if you want a usable system either
#1. save your data and do a clean install
OR
#2. take your system in to a good repair shop
OR
#3. get some knowledgeable person to come over to your system and help.

The more you try 'fixes' that you don't understand to problems that you
don't understand, the worse your system gets. That is true for anyone who
works with computers. Saving data, wiping the hard drive(s), and doing a
clean install of the operating system and applications is the last resort;
BUT it does NOT require that you understand the process or diagnose the
problem UNLESS the problem is actually hardware failure. Fixing a hardware
problem DOES require a proper diagnosis of the problem.

If you feel you are making progress, keep at it. If you don't feel you are
making progress, then it is time for #1, #2, or #3. Not every problem is
amenable to given and take in a newsgroup. Especially if you continue to
fragment the discussion by starting new threads.

sorry I posted a new thread with my problems...and no nothing is
better...what I need is a new PC but the cash flow won't allow it at
this point unless something great happens...for now I have to be
content with still being able to run a few programs and be online..at
least my PC doesn't freeze anymore due to taking out one stick of 256
