Need help with VGA Mode

I have Windows XP Home Edition with an ATI All-In-Wonder graphics card. Due
to some problems, I uninstalled the ATI software, (which includes the ATI
video driver). I believed that I could get it all running again by using
the VGA Mode prior to reinstalling the ATI software. I now have a dark
screen because I can't get my computer to switch into the VGA Mode - by
using the F5 or F8 keys during booting. Any ideas ?

Why do you feel the need to use Safe Mode?
Yes - your normal boot will look really bad and huge - but go in there -
install the latest drivers for your video card and reboot. You should be
back to normal.

Thank you for the response. I didn't explain myself correctly. When I got
into DOS I selected the VGA Mode and not the Safe Mode. The Safe Mode will
get me going but it will not allow me to connect to the Internet not will it
allow me to install a video driver from a CD.

Default behavior of XP is to use standard VGA (during normal boot) when
drivers specific to the video card are not available.
If this is not the case in your situation - select safe mode and through
device manager remove the card XP should find it on reboot.

AJR,
Thanks for your response. I haven't yet tried it because I had an older
video card that I'm using. What you say surely makes a lot of sense and I
will try it as soon as I can and let you know. With much appreciation.
