Need help with password

When trying to go to setup ( DEL ) from the boot screen i get a promt for a
password but never made a password , it is a fresh install of XP Home is
there something im missing here or is there a password set by microsoft that
i dont know about ? I have installed XP after my comp crashed befor and never
had this issue .

That should get you started in case you typed something during the
installation or the OEM did it for you.

DEL for the BIOS setup? Password for this area is not managed by Windows.
This is a feature of your motherboard. Did someone else set a password
here? If yes, will they tell you what it is so that you can get into setup?

If there is no one else and this got set accidentally, the directions for
resetting the password would be in the motherboard or system manual.

In general: powering down, opening the case and pulling the CMOS battery
will in most cases remove the password (and any custom settings). After 5
minutes or so, replace battery. Power up system and enter BIOS setup to
restore any custom settings necessary for your computer's configuration.
Save changes and exit.

also if you don't want to remove your battery because it is tricky
you can most of the time use a jummper |=| shaped thing to reset it
