I purged my Windows 2000 system of a virus that apparently ate part of my internal communications logic. My ethernet card can still talk to the cable modem. I have reloaded the ethernet driver twice and the system says that it is working proprerly, but none of the browsers or e-mail engines can talk to the ethernet card anymore. When I look at the event log, it says that the system can't resolve the communications to the ethernet card. Is there a simple fix for this that does not require an entire system reload? What did the virus do to my machine?

Maybe if you include the name of the virus, someone may have a suggestion.
Maybe search Symantec for the virus name. Maybe they have an explanation of
how the virus works and what files it affects.

There are thousands of viruses out that affect different things. Without
knowing the name of the virus it could have done any number of things.
