Need help with missing icons!

I have a Compaq laptop with the Windows XP OS. When the
computer boots up,the icons are missing on the desktop. I
have tried to reboot several times,but with the same
result. Someone please help me.

Right click the Start Button go to properties
Go to customize.
Go to Advanced (at the top)
On Start menu Items click the items you want to show on the start menu.

Rightclick desktop--select arrange icons---put X on show icons on
desktop.
