I have installed on my machine Win XP Pro. when i tried
to re-install it to have a clean hard drive it has copied
it over instead of full installation. Now i have many
files and folders that i do not want. I have tried to
format drive C but it wont allow it. i have tried
everything from deleting partition and recreating it but
to no avail. Can anyone out there please help me.

Actually, to be precise, you can't format a drive (unless you're
talking about something like a low-level format). You can only
format a partition.

In this case one way is to boot from the installation CD and,
before you install XP, remove the existing partition. The
installation procedure on the CD will allow you to do that.

Then install into the free space. The installation procedure
will create a new partition and format it.

I have tried to do what you two guys say but to no avail.
When it gives me the option to delete partition it does
not allow it saying temp files are being used. I have a
45 gb hard disc and when i look at the partitions there
is one that is 8mb which i do not know about. When i boot
from the cd at what point does it allow me to format the
partiton. Thanks for your help and i will not email you
unless stated!
