Need Help with Access Violations

K

Keith Russell

I am running XP Professional and have recently developed problems that
cause me to be unable to run certain applications.

The first symptom showed up when I downloaded and installed the Netscape
7.1 upgrade. When I tried to run the program, I got the familiar
"Netscape.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". I uninstalled
and reinstalled several times, with no success.

I had been running SP1, but was trying to deal with an IE6 problem with
frequent script errors. (Yes, I have script error reporting disabled in
Options.) Last night, I ran a repair install to try to fix this problem.

Today, when I tried to run NeoTrace Pro, I got the same "encountered a
problem" error. Again, I uninstalled and reinstalled, with no success. The
debugger shows an access violation.

Am I at the point where I'm going to have to completely reinstall Windows
and start over? Do I have any other options at this point?

Thanks for your help.

I can't be the only one who's had this problem--can I?

Can someone help? Please?

Keith,
I guess so. You need to reinstall your system. Problems
with some upgrades can real. The registry of XP can be
damaged. You can use your system restore or, to be right
that this problem will be resolved, save you data and
erase your HD.
