Help, Please! Can't Run My Applications

K

Keith Russell

No luck getting help with this problem in help_and_support 8-(, so thought
I'd try here....

I am running XP Professional and have recently developed problems that
cause me to be unable to run certain applications.

The first symptom showed up when I downloaded and installed the Netscape
7.1 upgrade. When I tried to run the program, I got the familiar
"Netscape.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". I uninstalled
and reinstalled several times, with no success.

I had been running SP1, but was trying to deal with an IE6 problem with
frequent script errors. (Yes, I have script error reporting disabled in
Options.) The other night, I ran a repair install to try to fix this
problem.

Then, when I tried to run NeoTrace Pro, I got the same "encountered a
problem" error. Again, I uninstalled and reinstalled, with no success. The
debugger shows an access violation.

Am I at the point where I'm going to have to completely reinstall Windows
and start over? Do I have any other options at this point?

Thanks VERY much in advance for your help.

What does a scan with your current antivirus (using updated definitions)
show? Have you removed spyware with tools like Spybot S&D and Ad-aware?
What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
What are your machine specs? You don't provide enough information to
get an answer to whether or not you should reinstall.
