need help with a problem

I copied a word pad document to CD and now cannot read it. Here is an example of what it looks like: !„*¼ê»à
Please help, i need the info this document contains
 
Copy the file from the CD to your hard drive, then right-click
on the file and select Open With > WordPad.

thanks for the reply, however that is what i did and took the example I gave from that copy... I get the same garbled mess either way.

If you're using Word 2003, there's a small arrow in the open window
which points to an option to open and repair any type of text, you
might try that.
Or, in that same 'open' window, below the name of the file there is a
dropdown menu with many types of text, there's an option there to
recover text from any file.

You might also try opening Word in safe mode by going to Start > Run
and typing:
winword /a (there's a space between the / and the a)
and opening the file in the hard drive.

From the file that is on the desktop, check to make sure that the file says XXX.txt (replace XXX with the name of the file).
If there is no info like .txt at the end of the file it can do that t
 
thanks to all that responded to my post. Fortunately, problem is solved but I dont understand why. It now opens correctly and I made a nice clean copy!
