Need help! Win XP scandisk after installing SP2

Hi, and thanks for taking a moment to look at my message.

After installing SP2, windows re-booted and did a scandisk on my 2nd
hard drive. It gave messages indicating something like indexing
orphan file... Now about 99% of the files on that drive do not work.
They are all listed with correct file names, dates and sizes and in
the right directory tree, just they do not open. Files include but
not limited to MP3s, AVIs, MPGs, JPGs, Quicken data files, DOCs, .htm,
etc... It seems that all the files are corrupted.

Question is how can I undo the changes that the scandisk did?

Background of install:
PC has 2 physical drives, C: and 2nd drive has two partitions.
I copied all important data from C: onto the second drive.
formated the C:, installed windows XP pro from initial install.
after windows completed, used Windows Update via web site to upgrade
to SP2.
Installed Norton System works 2003
Installed Quicken 2001 so I could pay some bills, and it wasnt able to
restore my quicken data file from that 2nd hard drive.
I tried a lot of other files (off that 2nd drive)and the majority seem
to be corrupted.
I have not installed anything else on the PC out of fear of ruining
any chance of undoing the situation.

My Concerns: (not revelant to problem)
I need to get the video and sound files back. I have been converting
a lot of home videos (vacations, plays, birthday parties, etc) to make
on DVD's. I assumed that my 2nd drive would be safe from installing
windows, what was I thinking?

Any help / ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone? Please?

Microsoft support chat (Manish F) claims that a system restore will
undo the changes of scandisk, but I would like more opinions.
