Need help to flash my BIOS

I've gotten the directions and the download from the Dell support for a falsh
bios, but everytime I try to open the file from the desktop -- like Dell says
to to to get to a setup in a DOS window in order to get the neccesary files
onto a bootable floppy for the flash action -- a DOS window opens up but with
this info: cannot do this from a protected environment, bios not upgraded,
hit any key to exit.

How do I unprotect enough to reach my goal? I tried searching the MS site
for a download of DOS, but all I can find are updates that seem to depend on
having DOS already installed -- only it isn't! If this is the way I have to
go, how/where to I download a version of basic DOS?

Any help will be most appreciated as I have been working on this off and on
for 2 weeks on my own with absolutely no success!!!!

You have been caught by bad semantics. There is no DOS under
Win2000, only a Command Prompt. DOS is an operating system,
and you must boot your machine with a genuine DOS disk in order
to flash your BIOS. You can get one free of charge from
www.bootdisk.com. Look for a Win98 boot disk - it's also called
DOS7.
