GOING OUTTA MY MIND

Computer connects to a Win NT 4.0 server. I can ping all
the other workstations on the server but cannot ping the
server. When connecting to the domain using the computer
name and domain name I get a domain controller not found
error.

Here are the settings off a Win98 computer

IP Designed Auto
DNS Disabled
WINS Use DHCP
NetBios over TCP/IP
Connects through a Gateway

On XP

IP Designed Auto
DNS - Defaults
WINS - Defaults
NetBios over TCP/IP
I put in the gateway info

Only difference I can see is on the Win98 they have the
Client for Microsoft Networks.

PLEASE HELP :(

Client for Microsoft Networks is required.

I have Client for Microsoft Networks set up on the XP..
It's just not showing the same info as the Win98
computers.

Assume you are using XP Professional, but it is not clear to me whether your
computer iis joined to the domain or not. If not, create the workstation
account using Server Manager on the domain controller. To join the domain,
use the Computer Name tab in My Computer properties. You need a domain user
account - not a computer account. If this does not work, add an lmhosts
file - See:
