Hi,

I have a document which contains topics in appendics with numbering
10, 10.1, 10.2 ....., 20 etc...

I have used upto heading 7 for headings other than appendics.

My question is i need to auto number this headings in appendics and
generate TOC. Should i need to create new styles or any other way.

Thanks in Advance.

Hello meendar
I have a document which contains topics in appendics with numbering
10, 10.1, 10.2 ....., 20 etc...

Does that mean you have normal headings in your document (1, 2, 3, ...,
with subheadings, and in the appendix you start numbering with 10 for
the first appendix chapter, 20 for the second, etc.? That seems pretty
odd IMHO. More often than not, appendices are numbered with letters.

I have used upto heading 7 for headings other than appendics.

Wait a minute. You said 7? _Seven_!!? All in one outline numbering
scheme? So you have a heading somewhere which is numbered like
3.1.1.1.1.1.2?? What kind of document is this?

My question is i need to auto number this headings in appendics and
generate TOC. Should i need to create new styles or any other way.

Well, you can certainly use Heading 8 for that (why not)?

OTOH, I suggest a reconsideration of your document structure. 7 heading
styles, numbered or not, are more likely to chase away any potential
reader instead of helping him comprehend the structure.

Greetings
Robert

It's just barely possible that the OP has used Heading 1 for the first
heading, Heading 2 for the second, etc., and has seven chapters before the
appendices. This is a common misunderstanding of the use of the heading
levels.

Then, as I said before: you _and_ your readers *will* have serious
problems digesting that bit.

You can certainly use Heading 8 and 9 for 10 / 20 / 30 ..., and 10.1 /
10.2 ..., respectively. If you were able to setup a workable outline
numbering scheme for 7 levels, can you elaborate about the problems you
face with H8 and H9?

H8:
Delete the "Number format" box, select Numbere style: 1, 2, 3, add a zero.

H9:
Delete the Number format" box, select Previous level number: 8, add a
zero, a dot, and then specify Number style: 1, 2, 3.

Whether this would ideally best be done within the same ListNum field
list name or not, I defer to the VBA-numbering gurus ...

But, once again, please tell us what kind of book this is; 7 levels is
simply -- I dunno -- out of words here, I think.

ofcourse Not, it is a document used for testing in Network Protocols.
Let me say another issue in this document, the appendix contains
exactly the below numbering. please explain how can i auto number the
appendix using the heading levels 8 and 9 and i also should generate
TOC?

Appendix A
10
Appendix B
10,10.1,10.2,10.3,10.4,10.5,10.6,10.7,20,20.1,20.2,20.3,20.4
Appendix C
10,20
Appendix D
10,20,30,40
Appendix E
10,20,30,40,40.1
Appendix F
10,20,20.1,30
Appendix G
10,20,30,30.1,30.2,30.3,40,40.1,50

Thanks in Advance
