Hi

Have you been into the BIOS and set the CD drive as 1st bootable?

*How* did you make this backup of your XP Professional Installation CD?

I copied the contents of the cd to a temp folder on my desktop and then
copied the contents of the temp folder to a blank cd-rom. I can access the
cd and run the xp installer but it will not let me install xp because the cd
version is older that what is on my computer(I assume because SP2 updates??).
Therefor I need to boot the computer with the cd in the drive, but when I
do, the computer just starts normally.

Will...I did set the cd-rom to boot first in the bios.

Thanks

And thus - your method of "copy" is why the CD itself does not boot. You
need to make a duplicate of the CD - you cannot see all files or the
configuration. You would at least need to make the CD a bootable CD. Most
decent CD writing software can take a 'boot image' and do this for you.
However - you would nbeed the boot image from a Windows XP CD.

As for the SP2 thing - you are correct. Not that starting the installation
in Windows would help anyway.

Why not use your original CD (since it was most likely bootable)?
